Roman Titschka was born in Vienna, where his mother emigrated after the Soviet occupation in 1968. When she later returned to her native Czechoslovakia, abandoned by her Austrian husband and haunted by homesickness, she took little Roman with her. The boy never found a place he would consider a true home, and so immediately after 1989 he began to wander Europe like a lonely albatross, following the colossus of European tourism and living off the scraps that fell from its deck. He made his living by playing street music in various destinations, where he served tourists unorthodox interpretations of world hits with his acoustic guitar and kazoo.

Roman was heard by Mike O’Brien, aka M.O.B., an Irish English teacher and amateur musician living in Prague, during his street performance in Náplavka, Prague, and was intrigued by this unusual musical phenomenon. When Roman confirmed that he had some of his own songs, M.O.B. arranged to record at Miloš Rábl's Solisko studio. Roman agreed, probably mainly because he was promised unlimited free beer during the recording session, which Miloš's studio is famous for.

Now you can judge the musical output of this quirky personality for yourself. While you listen to his rather unkempt and somewhat bizarre songs, he is probably playing somewhere next to an ice cream stand on a Mediterranean promenade, or hitchhiking or walking to another location, where condescending tourists throw some money into his case for food, alcohol and cigarettes.

We probably can't expect Roman Titschka to become a star of the charts. But even on the fringes of the music world, music is being created that is worth listening to. We hope that it will appeal to you too.
